FRENCH QUARTER BLUES
Lyrics & music by Steve Haggard, published by Golden Harp Music, BMI. All Rights Reserved.

I love New Orleans, and have been there many, many times. It's hard to describe the very special atmosphere of the place -- which is like nowhere else -- but that's what I tried to do in this song. I first started working on French Quarter Blues in one of my favorite bars anywhere, the Napoleon House, which is just down the street from the corner of Chartres and Toulouse. Actually, the back cover of my "Mysterious Ways"
CD was supposed to have a picture of me standing on that very corner. The photo
was taken, but didn't come out. (Those were pre-digital days, alas.)            - Steve H.

1. Standin' on the corner / corner of Chartres and Toulouse
Standin' on the corner / corner of Chartres and Toulouse
Down in old New Orleans / singin' the French Quarter blues

2. Mystery and moonlight / somethin' wild in the air
I saw a woman in the shadows / long white dress and jet black hair
Reached out to touch her / but she wasn't even there

3. Hear that slide guitar moanin' / such a sweet and mournful sound
Hear that ghostly singin' / feel the spirits all around
Hear that harp a-wailin' / and the music rainin' down

4. Walk down to the river / watch the storm clouds rollin' in
Hear the live oaks rustlin' /  sounds like whispers on the wind
And the band on the corner / is playin' the same old blues again

repeat Verse 1.
